Have fun!
Be diligent in your practice of Peng, Lu.Gi, and An. Upper and lower coordinate, others find it difficult to penetrate, Let others attack with great force. Use 4 ounces to deflect 1000 pounds. Attract to emptiness and discharge. Attach without loosing the attachment. Energy is rooted in the feet, develops in the legs, is directed by the waist and moves up in the fingers.

Instructor Mike's promotion
March 23, 2018
Instructor Mike may now be properly addressed as Sifu Mike.
After many years of dedicated practice, Sifu Mike mastered the WuDang 108 form taught by Mr. Bill, Master Huang and the Grand Masters in China. Due to the skills and understanding gathered in this quest, Mike is recognized as a WuDang Tai Chi Master.
--
I have never been attracted to gaudiness, braggadocio, ego, or assertiveness. It is the beauty of nature and natural behavior that I prefer. The study of the WuDan Taiji system felt natural to me. Over time, I came to understand that there is another name for this natural way: The Tao.
It is logical and natural to my understanding that I want to draw my opponent's power into a void. It is logical and natural for me to to me to push into the opponents weakness. WuDan Taiji is nature to me, it is The Tao.
Water flowing in a mighty stream may at times splash upwards after hitting a rock, spin into an eddy, or fall sharply over a cliff. Water will find a place of little resistance and move there with intensity. The Taiji form teaches that while standing (Wuji), I am able to move up, down, forward, backward, left or right. At another level, one can learn to move in any direction from the platform of moving in any direction. This is one way that study of the 108 form has put me more in touch with nature.
Mr. (Master) Bill is a pleasure to associate with. Just seeing him always makes me smile. When I see him, I see one of nature's finest creations, and one who is comfortable with his role in nature. Mr. Bill is a teacher who gives of himself so others may learn the same natural tranquility. Besides teaching the 108 form, he regularly teaches Taiji applications and life lessons.
People tend to carry stress in their musculature. Several times each class Mr. Bill will point out that we are not properly relaxed. Realizing this, we make corrections. Then we wonder if other times in our life we could have been more relaxed. The answer to this is always yes.
If for no reason other than relaxation, to me, Taiji is a worthwhile life-long practice.
I have been teaching the publicly available class for nearly six years. It has been a great pleasure to meet new students and observe them having "ah-ha" moments as they progress. It is a great source of pride that some of my students have continued their training and are nearly Master's themselves. In hindsight, these people are not the same as when I first met them. They are more poised, they walk with more confidence and balance. They move easily, with the parts of their bodies in sync. They are becoming more like nature intended.
Time spent without making changes is unnatural. Fortunately, I still have the rest of my life to further my study in nature, Taiji, and the Tao.
Instructor Mike
--
As he continues his personal studies, Sifu Mike continues to teach the public class consisting of a set of daily exercises, chi development exercises, the 108 form, and some life lessons thrown in as a bonus. Throughout these classes, every intention is to teach the next generation of students in a manner that is consistent with the teachings of the Grand Masters.

On Longevity
Think over carefully what the final purpose is:
to lengthen life and maintain youth.

to lengthen life and maintain youth.
SONG OF THE THIRTEEN POSTURES - Author Unknown

Draft:
Indiana Tai Chi Academy is now offering one-on-one, and group training for the elderly.
We have been asked on several occasions to teach Tai Chi to elderly people. Until recently, nothing has come of it. In early October 2017, Instructor Mike began instructing an older gentleman at an Indy nursing home cottage. While this gentleman has both good and bad days, overall, the results have been helping him progress towards a personal goal: he wants to stand up by himself and and go for a walk outside without falling. Tai Chi practice is perfectly suited for this goal and together we pursue this with patience and as much gusto as he can generate.
Foundations to Tai Chi include balance, postures, breathing, and movement. Instructor Mike's wish is that he could go back in time with several loved ones. He wants to teach them all to stand without falling, to strengthen the bones, tendons, and muscles, and to breathe properly. It is sad that to have a family history of people falling, breaking something, contracting pneumonia, and then leaving us.
With that in mind, please feel free to refer us to people who could benefit from Tai Chi practice.
While, our hearts are for the elderly, due to the time requirement and emotional involvement, we are not able to provide this training at no cost.
There will be more to say on this topic as time progresses so check back.

We should think that Hoosiers would want this healing in addition to the benefits of Tai Chi mentioned above.

Chinese New Year 2014
The class, previous students, and instructors will meet at a Chinese Buffet this year to observe the day and kick off the year of the horse.
Plan to arrive Sunday around 5:00 pm.
Since it is a buffet, early and late arrival times will not be a problem.
We have eaten at this restaurant many times and know the food selections and restaurant cleanliness to be more than satisfactory. While the dinner is quite affordable, class funds are available to cover the cost of student dinners if needed.
Bring a camera if you wish. Many photos from the event will be posted here.
Spouses, friends, family, and potential new students will be welcome to join as well!
Our time together is typically spent training. This is one of our two yearly opportunities to gather socially so we hope to see you there.

I coppied the following from HERE
The 13 Postures of Tai Chi:
The 13 Postures is the foundation of Tai Chi Chuan. Without the 13 Postures there is neither the Chuan (form) nor the push-hands. These 13 postures were derived from the Eight Trigrams (the first 8 postures - energies) and the Five Elements (the last 5 postures - steps). The 13 postures are:
The 13 principles must execute the mind, chi, and physical movement in one unit. This means that when the mind is focused on a specific area of the body, the chi will flow into that area. When the chi flows into an area, power will follow.

-------I coppied the following from HERE
The 13 Postures of Tai Chi:
The 13 Postures is the foundation of Tai Chi Chuan. Without the 13 Postures there is neither the Chuan (form) nor the push-hands. These 13 postures were derived from the Eight Trigrams (the first 8 postures - energies) and the Five Elements (the last 5 postures - steps). The 13 postures are:
- Peng (ward-off)
- Lu (roll-back)
- Chi (press)
- An (push)
- Tsai (pull-down)
- Lieh (split)
- Chou (elbow strike)
- Kao (shoulder strike)
- Chin (advance)
- Tui (retreat)
- Ku (look left)
- Pan (look right)
- Ting (center)
The 13 principles must execute the mind, chi, and physical movement in one unit. This means that when the mind is focused on a specific area of the body, the chi will flow into that area. When the chi flows into an area, power will follow.
- Sinking of Shoulders and Dropping of Elbows
- Relaxing of Chest and Rounding of Back
- Sinking Chi down to Dan Tien
- Lightly Pointing Up the Head
- Relaxation of Waist and Hip
- Differentiate Between Empty and Full: Yin and Yang
- Coordination of Upper and Lower Parts of the Body
- Using the Mind Instead of Force
- Harmony Between Internal and External
- Connecting the Mind and the Chi
- Find Stillness Within Movement
- Movement and Stillness Present at Once
- Continuity and Evenness Throughout the Form

All-School Campout 2012
Join Sifu Bill, the assistant instructors, and class at:McCormick's Creek State Park campground for the weekend. There will be time for relaxing, socializing, and best of all...training!
The (tentative) date for this years All-School Camping trip is October something.Stay tuned.
- The first week of September has been just what we needed; temperatures have dropped considerably and we got lots of rain!
Update: October weekend weather is forcast to be high of low-mid 60's and lows of 40 degrees... The 2012 All School Camping Trip is hereby canceled. <sniff>
Students, and family are welcome to begin preparing. Bulky items may be stored at Bill's house up to a week in advance. The set up crew will haul it to the campground for you.
Thursday is our set-up day. Sunday is the pack out day.
Everything is being organized so that participation will be very inexpensive. If funding is a concern, let us know - we really want this event to be accessible to all students.
Want to get involved?
- RSVP your plans
- The set-up crew will arrive Thursday. Help?
- The pack out crew will return all the gear to Carmel. Help?
- The kitchen crew will begin planning vegetarian meals (with meat on the side). Help?
- Got any extra camping gear to share?
- Are you good with a camera?

Chinese New Year 2013
Each year, we celebrate Chinese New Years. This year, the appropriate date is Sunday February 10.
This is a great opportunity for people to gather in a more laid-back social setting instead of a structured class.
We plan to meet at the Mandrin House, 1348 S Range Line Rd Carmel, IN 46032 at 12:00. Some will arrive as soon as 11:00 to ensure we have tables.
They offer a $11.00 buffet that day so we can each eat without having to order from the menu.
Look for the construction on their, they are getting a face lift. you can't miss it!
We look forward to seeing you there!
